Providence Historic Home Renovation & Addition: Modernizing a 1930 Spanish Revival (Hill & Harbor journal)

Reimagining the Floor Plan for Modern Flow Prior to starting construction, the existing 1930s floor plan required extensive architectural planning to accommodate significant layout changes. We designed and executed a strategic second-floor addition to seamlessly add valuable square footage. This expansion not only increased the living space but fundamentally improved the overall flow of the home, proving that historic properties can successfully adapt to the demands of everyday modern living without losing their identity.

Balancing Modern Openness with Period Charm On the first floor, the careful removal of structural walls created a profound sense of openness in the main living area. This was achieved without sacrificing the warmth and distinct definition of each individual room. Now, every space within the property has a fresh, updated point of view, yet nothing in this historic house abruptly announces itself as new. By meticulously incorporating period lighting, rich wood floors, and exposed ceiling beams, we ensured that all modern design decisions feel as though they have been a natural part of the home for decades.
