1830s Home with A Fully Reimagined First Level
- Start to Finish: 6 months
- Location: East Greenwich, RI
- Project: Complete interior renovation
About this Project
At Hill & Harbor Design Build, we specialize in transforming historic homes to enhance both their functionality and beauty while preserving their timeless character. 47 Peirce Street in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, a classic 1830s residence, presented the perfect opportunity to reimagine its interior layout while respecting its rich history.
To improve the flow and livability of the home, we completely reconfigured the first level, with a key focus on relocating the kitchen to become the true heart of the home. By strategically repositioning the kitchen, we created a central gathering space that seamlessly connects with the surrounding living and dining areas, making it more intuitive for everyday life and entertaining.

This transformation included:
- Custom-designed cabinetry that complements the home’s historic details
- High-end appliances integrated into the design for modern convenience
- An expanded and open layout, enhancing natural light and connectivity between spaces
The result is a warm, inviting kitchen that not only serves as a functional workspace but also as the focal point of the home.

A Primary Suite with Stunning Views
On the second level, we undertook a complete redesign of the floor plan, crafting a true primary suite that maximizes the home’s elevated position above the harbor. The suite features:
- Large windows framing breathtaking views of Greenwich Bay
- A luxurious en-suite bathroom with high-end finishes
- A spacious walk-in closet, thoughtfully designed for both storage and aesthetics
This reimagined space provides a private retreat, blending comfort and elegance while embracing the home’s stunning location.
Preserving Historic Character
Throughout the renovation, we meticulously restored key architectural elements, including:
- Original wood flooring refinished to enhance its natural warmth
- Period fireplaces and detailed trim work preserved and highlighted
- Subtle material selections that honor the home’s historic integrity while adding modern touches
Blending History with Modern Living
At Hill & Harbor Design Build, we believe that great design respects the past while embracing the future. 47 Peirce Street is a perfect example of how thoughtful renovation can unlock a home’s full potential, creating spaces that are both timeless and tailored for modern living.
